As the parent of a high school senior, I occasionally take a look at the New York Times blog The Choice about the college admission process. Currently the blog features some posts from college-bound seniors reflecting with emotion on their graduations. As we all know, graduations can be affecting for the parents involved as well as the students.
There aren’t all that many perks of being a School Board member, but getting to hand out diplomas at our high school graduations is one of them. This year, it was my privilege to present diplomas at the East graduation. This picture of my daughter and me captures a moment that is (and, I predict, always will be) the highlight of my tenure on the Board. (Thanks to Sally Weidemann for the photo.)
